Dolores Ibarruri

Dolores Ibarruri

 issue 01:

Dolores Ibarruri is the eighth of eleven children of a family of miners from Gallarrta and was occupied with housework until her marriage.  Her husband was a militant socialist who’d been imprisoned several times.  With him, she participated in the foundation of the Spanish communist party in 1920.  Arrested and imprisoned, ‘la pasionaria’ was sent to Moscow.  From 1936, she was part of the Madrid offence against the nationalists and served under the slogan “No Pasaran”.  Forty years later, in 1977, after the restoration of the democracy, she was reelected.
